LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - If you're looking to save on your grocery bill this summer you may want to do some price checks at the local Farmers Market.
When fresh produce is in season, you'll find the best bargains and according to research from Cornell University consumers are more likely to eat fresh food that tastes good. They're also less likely to overeat or look for something else to eat.
Here are tips for shopping and saving: Buy in season, buy in bulk and ask for a better price when making bulk purchases. Plan to can or freeze items to stretch your dollar more. Farmers will typically sell bruised produce for a cheaper price too which also make great canning and baking options. For the best bargains, be patient, prices tend to drop as the market is coming to a close.
