Elihu Rigsby entered the US Army on May 23, 1942.
During the war he was a squad leader of a heavy machinge gun crew. His rank was Sergeant in 43rd Infantry Division in support of the 3rd Marine Corps.
He made 11 landings on islands in the South Pacific. They include Quadalcanal, New Guinea and the Northern Solomon Islands.
He contracted malaria while in the Pacific Theater. He recuperated in New Zealand. He was in the service overseas for 2 years, 9 months and 1 day.
Elihu Rigsby was discharged on September 4, 1945.
In uniform he earned a Combat Infantryman Badge, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars and Good Conduct Medal.
