Horse Racing Commission approves limited ban on anti-bleeding drug

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky horse racing regulators have approved a limited ban on race day use of an anti-bleeding drug for the state's top races.

The Horse Racing Commission voted 7 to 5 Wednesday in favor of the proposal which will now undergo Legislative review.

The proposal would eventually ban race day use of the drug Lasix in graded or listed stake races, including the Kentucky Derby.

If approved, Kentucky would be the first state to take action against the drug, which is banned internationally.
