LA GRANGE, KY (WAVE) - A man has been seriously injured after a car that was being pursued by police crashed into his motorcycle in Oldham County.
We are told the accident happened just before 8 o'clock Wednesday evening just north of La Grange on Highway 53 between Cedar Springs Road and Old Sligo Road.
Oldham County Police say officers were following a speeding vehicle around 7:30 when they lost sight of the vehicle. Oldham County Sheriff and La Grange Police joined forces with Oldham County Police, when an officer spotted the speeding the car along 53.
While passing another car, the driver of the red Chevrolet car struck an oncoming motorist.
Police say the motorcyclist was thrown off the motorcycle and suffered a severe leg injury in the crash. The motorcycle driver has been transported to University Hospital where he had to undergo surgery.
There is no word on the victim's condition. Police say the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
Police say early indications are that alcohol and speed are a factor by the driver of the red Chevrolet car.
The car was mangled so badly that it stopped working, at which point police say the driver got out and ran away.
An officer chased him for about 25 feet and was able to arrest the driver of the car. Police say he is facing multiple charges.
More information, including charges and names, is expected Thursday.
