LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville man is accused of
beating to death a cat with a broom, according to his arrest report.
Officers dispatched to an apartment building on East St.
Catherine Street on Thursday said a woman there told them Shaun A. McKinney, 25,
had killed her cat the previous night.
The officers located McKinney inside the apartment, and
according to the arrest report, McKinney admitted his role in the cat's death.
McKinney allegedly told police he became irate after the cat
knocked a second cat off a chair to the ground. McKinney said he chased the
first cat into the kitchen where he grabbed a broom and struck the animal three
or four times. He then left the apartment and returned a short time later. He
found the cat motionless in the kitchen, so he struck the cat several more
times and kicked it to see whether it was still alive, according to police.
McKinney was charged with torture to a cat, second degree
cruelty to an animal and second degree criminal mischief.
