MADISON, IN (WAVE) – Days after a father was arrested in connection to his six-week-old baby's death, the baby's mother is now behind bars.

Betty Beach said just when it seemed like it could not get worse for her family, it did. "It's just a nightmare, I just wish we would wake up from it," said Beach, victim's grandmother and mother of Aubrey Coy.

A little more than a week ago, baby Christopher Coy was rushed to the hospital after he was severely injured. He died from blunt force trauma to the head. The baby was in the care of his father, 30-year-old Christopher Coy, who told investigators that he slipped on the stairwell and dropped the infant in his carrier down a flight of stairs.

He said it was an accident, but the prosecutor said there are some inconsistencies with the medical examiner's findings.

On Tuesday, Indiana State Police executed a search warrant at the couple's home on Walnut Street, looking for evidence in this case. Police said the victim's mother, 24-year-old Aubrey Coy, had marijuana on her and in their home.

"I don't know exactly where they found it. They wouldn't let nobody go in," said Beach.

Aubrey was arrested and taken into custody. "Her arrest has nothing to do with the baby, nothing at all," said Beach.

Both parents are behind bars in the Jefferson County Jail and Beach says the couple's three children have since been removed from their home.

"The girls are in foster care and the oldest boy is with his grandma," said Beach.

As the investigation continues to unfold, Beach says she knows she has to remain strong for her family. "It ain't easy," said Beach. "I'm trying, but it ain't easy."

Christopher Coy is currently charged with neglect. He is due back in court Wednesday afternoon.
