CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A man has been indicted in a cold case murder after his ex-girlfriend's remains were found buried in an East End home.

Richard Kuhn, 45, has been indicted on one count of aggravated murder, one count of murder, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of gross abuse of a corpse.  If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of life in prison.

Kuhn is charged with killing Kimberly Brown between Nov.14, 2005 and Dec. 31, 2006 and burying her body in the basement of his house on 3229 Riverside Drive. Her remains were found in the home in September of 2011.

Kuhn and Miss Brown had dated.

Kuhn has been locked up since July 16, 2010 in the Warren Correctional Institutional as a result of a Clermont County conviction for burglary.  He is scheduled to be released on that charge on March 28, 2015.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office says that in 2011, Kuhn began writing detailed letters to friends and acquaintances asking for their help in digging up Brown's body and disposing of it. Kuhn became concerned about the body when he learned that there was a water leak in the Riverside Drive basement and contractors were coming to fix the leak.

The police eventually received information about the letters and began their investigation.  They executed a search warrant at the residence on September 29, 2011 and found Brown's body.

On June 13, 2012 the Hamilton County Coroner ruled her death a homicide by undetermined means.  Due to the condition of the body, the coroner's office had to employ extraordinary means to conduct the autopsy.

"Kimberly Brown was murdered over six years ago," said Prosecutor Joe Deters. "The crime was gruesome and Kuhn's attempts to cover it up were extensive.  Richard Kuhn needs to be in prison for a long, long time."
