What's Working: Military All-Stars play benefit baseball game in Hamilton
HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -
The U.S. Military All-Star baseball team arrived at Foundation Field in Hamilton Thursday night to play the Hamilton Joe's in a benefit baseball game. The "Joe's" is Hamilton's collegiate summer league team, taking its name from the late Hamilton native, Joe Nuxhall.
Proceeds from the game benefited the Wounded Warrior Program which helps military personnel wounded in action with medical needs and personal family finances. "To get support and honor and recognition from groups and people in communities just like this is outstanding," said wounded warrior, Danny Ruck. Ruck was severely injured when his military vehicle struck an IED in Afghanistan in 2009.
Ruck threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game and was honored in a pre-game ceremony where he received a folded American flay from the All-Stars. "It was to welcome me back home and to just show honor," said Ruck.
The military All-Stars are touring more than forty U.S. cities and three countries to drum up support for the Wounded Warrior Program. According to a spokesperson, the win seventy percent of their games. But not Thursday night. The Hamilton Joe's prevailed by a score of 8-5.
