Take care of your air conditioner so you will not have to call a repairman.
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - When it is 95 degrees outside, your thermostat should be set at 72 degrees, according to Aire Serv. Air conditioners will run at full capacity all the time at any temperature above 95. For every degree above 95 outside, the temperature in your house will raise a degree and a half.
Here are some other tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your air conditioner:
Change your in house filter regularly. A blocked filter will slow the movement of air over the coils.
Keep bushes and grass away from the unit. It will also block air flow.
Call your service provider to clean the unit. If you do it yourself, it may just push dirt into the system rather than clearing it out.
If your unit freezes, it means your refrigerant levels are too low, not too high. Turn it off, let it defrost and call your service provider.
A dehumidifier can keep your home cooler.
Keep bedroom doors and vents open. The air conditioner was designed to allow the air to flow through the home. Closing vents and doors will slow down the airflow in the house.
