LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville woman believes two dogs were abandoned and left in the sweltering heat without proper shelter, so she called WAVE 3 for help.

The dogs are living behind a home on Crawford Avenue in Buechel.

"I think they're wonderful little dogs," Trisha Abdin said. "They're the sweetest little things."

Abdin and her son have regularly fed the dogs and given them water for nearly a month.

"We've called Metro Animal Services, we've called the Humane Society. Yesterday, with the heat being so bad, we finally broke down and called 911," Abdin said. "They said they would send somebody out... nothing."

A girl who said her family used to live at the home told WAVE 3 she and her friends occasionally come and care for the dogs.

"I kind of hate the fact that we can't do it all the time. But at least they're taken care of," the girl said of the people who have regularly taken care of the dogs.

The girl said her family moved weeks ago and their new landlord doesn't allow animals. Of the dogs, the girl said "I think they deserve a better home, someone who can love them and take care of them right because we can't."

The girl said she would like LMAS to take the dogs. "I'd miss them, but they deserve something better," she said.

"I'm heartbroken,"Abdin said with a sigh. "I mean, these are defenseless little dogs."

Abdin said she will continue her mission.

"I want Metro Animal Services to come and pick these dogs up, check them out. If they're okay, adopt them out," Abdin said.

WAVE 3 left messages with Metro Animal Services. As of early Monday morning, those calls had not been returned.
