LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A portion of Taylorsville Road in southeastern Louisville Metro was shut down for more than four hours Tuesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a man.

A MetroSafe dispatcher said four vehicles were involved in the crash in the 13000 block of Taylorsville Road at Old Taylorsville Road near the Gene Snyder Freeway just before 6:30 a.m.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner R.D. Jones said Jon Burd, 28, from New Haven, Kentucky, died at University of Louisville Hospital at 12:22 Tuesday afternoon. Jones said Burd died of multiple traumatic injuries sustained in a car accident.

Dwight Mitchell, a LMPD spokesperson, said Burd was driving a Ford Focus and heading eastbound on Taylorsville Road when his car swerved into the westbound lane. The Focus first struck a Lincoln MKX SUV before continuing on to hit a van head on.

Mitchell said the driver and passenger of the Lincoln SUV were not hurt and the driver of the van sought treatment on his own for minor injuries.

The 13,000 block of Taylorsville Road, which had remained closed in both directions while the Louisville Metro Police traffic unit investigated the accident, was reopened to traffic at 10:40 a.m.

According to Jones, Burd worked in Louisville. Greenwells Funeral Home in New Haven is handling his funeral.
