LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – An incredible volunteer and patient at Kosair Children's Hospital was honored on Wednesday.

Gage Richardson, 17, from Prospect, Kentucky, has had nine brain surgeries since 2004. He has volunteered at the hospital since 2009 and logged over 700 hours of service.

"Thank everyone. Just thank all of you for everything you have given me up to this point in my life," said Richardson. "Kosair has very much been a part of my life completely and it has really shaped me to become who I am."

With Richardson heading off to college in the fall, Kosair made sure to show their appreciation. They honored him with a $200 scholarship on behalf of the Children's Hospital Foundation.
