The 3-year-old colt, Silver Max, whose owner, trainer, and jockey all live in Louisville, continued his winning ways as he captured the $600,000 Virginia Derby Saturday night at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Virginia.
Sliver Max has now won his last six races, all of them contested on grass. He is co-owned by Mark Bacon, trained by Dale Romans, and was ridden to victory by Robby Albarado. Silver Max has rapidly risen to become one of the best grass runners in the U.S. The Churchill Downs- based colt paid $3.80 as the Virginia Derby's race favorite.
