$500,000 project shuts down road

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – Work is underway to fix what some would call a slight landslide.

The area is Spring Street Hill,  located on the west end of Spring Street in downtown New Albany. The hill goes up a knob to the Silver Hills neighborhood.

New Albany's Public Works Department said they had to close the road after record-setting rains in 2011 sent part of the road down the hill.

The project will cost $500,000 to rebuild the winding road and support an underground ravine located in the area.

Residents have had to take two other alternative routes to get to their homes until the road is finished.

The work started in June and they expect it to be finished by early fall.
