LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) –The investigation continues into an incident at a Highlands bar that sent two people to the hospital and closed a busy intersection during the morning rush hour.
Witnesses said the incident started inside Akiko's, a nightspot on Bardstown Road near Grinstead Drive. Police were called around 2:30 a.m. after the incident inside spilled outside onto the street.
Danny Barhorst, the owner of Highland Liquors, said his security cameras caught the entire incident on tape. Barhorst said the tape shows two men involved in an argument when one man turns and fired shots at someone.
He says, "It looks like a guy was in Akikos, there was a disturbance. He comes out, argument ensued outside, and the guy turns around and fires a shot at someone right in front of my store right here." He also has on camera the suspect discarding his weapon. "Two guys run around the store, they converse a little bit, they go in the back of the store and they drop the gun in the trash can."
Two men were taken to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. One of the men was initially thought to have a gunshot wound to the leg, but now police a not sure of a bullet caused his wound or shrapnel. The men have been released from the hospital.
A witness said a burgundy Cadillac was parked outside the store and the suspect ran out and retrieved the gun from that car.
Metro Police are still searching for those involved.
