Stormy night; Elderly man beaten; Local Olympians ready to compete

The Olympics are here!!!

My favorite part of the Opening Ceremony has started – I love the Parade of Athletes!  If you're watching, you can chat with us now about your impressions of the show.  And if you're by a computer, you can also join Scott Reynolds, Chief Meteorologist Kevin Harned and me for a webcast of WAVE 3 News at 11:00!  We'll be on your TV as soon as NBC's coverage is over ... right around midnight.  So stay up to join us!

If you're watching, you've seen a fair share of Kevin already throughout the evening.  He's been keeping us up to date as he tracks the storms that have moved through the area.  They caused some serious damage, especially in Southern Indiana.  WAVE 3's Matt McCutcheon was there tonight.

And a sad story out of Floyd County tonight – a masked criminal broke into an elderly man's house and beat him so badly that he had to go to the hospital. WAVE 3's Katie Bauer has more on who police caught and how he may have known the victim.

We'll also let you hear from a couple of our Olympic swimmers, who will face some tough competition early in these games.  You can keep track of all of our local athletes by clicking on the Olympic Zone on wave3.com.  Check it out -- there's a lot of cool stuff there!

We'll see you as soon as NBC wraps up their coverage!!
