LOUISIVLLE, KY (WAVE) - A deck collapse in east Louisville sent four people to the hospital Sunday evening.

According to MetroSafe, the accident happened around 6 Sunday evening in Heritage Hills, a mix of apartments and condos, in the 11000 block of Olde Sage Court off of Shelbyville Road.

"It was like thunder pretty much; the house shook. I was upstairs in my room and I felt it," said John Wright, who lives inside the apartment where the deck collapsed.

His family had just gotten home when four people went out on the deck to enjoy a pleasant night, but things quickly changed.

"The night went from having food at Famous Dave's to your floor fell almost on top of you," he said.

As the family's two story deck collapsed, the wooden structure snapped out of place and even ripped the wall apart when it gave way.

Neighbors said they heard a loud thud and looked to see what happened.

"At that point they were still rolling around and trying to maneuver out from underneath the debris," said Mark Mosier.

All four were rushed to the hospital; fortunately they were not seriously hurt.

"They're all right, just some bruises and a broken leg," Wright said.

Wright says they're lucky no one was on the first floor balcony when the structure came crashing down.

The family plans to block the door, which now opens up to a huge drop off and mess of wood.

The fall made neighbors think twice before heading outside.

"I'm not going to be going out on it! Not tonight," Mosier said.

A building inspector will come out Monday to see what caused the collapse, and to see if the rest of the units are safe.
