LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Metro police are investigating a
murder-suicide in the Highlands. Police said the victims are an elderly couple.
It happened in 1600 block of Stevens Avenue on Tuesday.
Tim Darst, president of Deer Park Neighborhood
Association, was just getting off work Tuesday morning when he noticed
something was wrong in his neighborhood.
"I never would have believed it would be something
like this," said Darst. "We've all got parents and our parents are
growing older you worry about them."
Metro police were called to the home Tuesday morning.
They said a relative came over to check on the elderly couple that lived there.
Police said a man in his 80's and woman in her 70's, were
found dead inside. The victims each died from gunshot wounds to the head
"This is what they discovered this morning,"
said LMPD Spokesperson Carey Klain. "Police did respond, EMS, the coroner
has been by and homicide is doing their investigation."
Neighbors told WAVE 3, the relative was the couples
daughter. They said the elderly man had been battling some health related
issues.
The couple were known for being great neighbors, ones who
often would sit on their front porch and wave hello. Neighbors said that's how
they are choosing to remember them.
"That's all you can do is pray for that
family," said Darst. "If there is anything you could possibly do for
the family I'm sure neighbors will jump to do that, that's the type of
neighborhood this is."
One of the neighbors told WAVE 3, the elderly man was
very active and used to work for the Courier Journal. He had a passion for
being a bee keeper.
The coroner is expecting to release the names of the
couple on Wednesday.
