Air 3 view of Chick-fil-A's on Wednesday.
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A controversial
statement by the head of the company ended with thousands flocking to Chick-fil-A.
The message and financial
support against gay marriage from Chick-Fil-A leader Dan Cathy took a different
turn Wednesday.
Those who side with the
leader packed his restaurants across the country.
Air 3 showed it was a
recipe for success as huge crowds seemed to wrap around locations in Kentuckia,
from State Street in New Albany to Hurstbourne Parkway in Louisville.
The Shelbyville Road
location in Saint Matthews also saw a rush of customers, as did the Fern Creek
store along Bardstown Road.
The
madness didn't slow down during the dinner hours either.
Trevor Mahoney said, "It
is what it is. I think you have to look past that though and remember that they
are still about quality service and that's what a fast food restaurant is
really about - the service and the food."
On the UofL campus there
was a much quieter story at Chick-fil-A. In fact, the doors were locked. That's
because Chick-fil-A actually closed down for the summer come late April despite
the rocky waters the university is now having with the food chain."
University leaders said
they found Chick-fil-A's comments offensive, saying it "went against
efforts to build a tolerant campus."
The school said they would
review the university's lease with the food chain.
However on Wednesday, the
school changed its tune, basically saying it supports free speech and will do
nothing.
