Two found dead after SWAT standoff ends

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville Metro Police SWAT teams entered an apartment in Shelby Park early Friday morning after an overnight standoff and found two young people dead.

Police surrounded the apartment late Thursday night after responding to a call of shots fired around 11:30 p.m. According to LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, the officers heard more shots and surrounded the Jackson Woods Apartments.

Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, SWAT and hostage negotiation teams took over the scene at 1035 S. Jackson Street in Shelby Park.

Investigators said just after 5:30 a.m. SWAT officers entered the apartment and found a man and a woman alive in the apartment. The man was taken into custody by police, and the woman taken to University of Louisville Hospital suffering a gunshot wound. Smiley said officers also found the bodies of the two juveniles.

Metro police say the victims are a woman, age 25, and a man, age 18 or 19. Their names have not been released. LMPD did not say what, if any, relationship there was between the adults found in the apartment and the victims.
