'Restaurant Impossible' filming in town, seeking volunteers

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A Southwest Boulevard restaurant is getting a big makeover from a cable TV star.

The Food Network show Restaurant Impossible is in town, and the host, Robert Irvine, is whipping Poco's into shape.

Irvine says the restaurant near 31st Street and Southwest Boulevard was badly in need of help.

"This is not just a show where people think, 'Let Robert come in and yell and scream and shout.' This is about saving people's livelihoods, their family relationships and putting businesses back into local communities. It is not about TV, it is about real life, real problems and we give real solutions," said Irvine.

The Restaurant Impossible crew needs volunteers to show up Thursday to help finish up Poco's makeover.

The show's producers say to just show up and ask for Robert or Nick.

A special behind the scenes episode showcasing Poco's will air Aug. 22 on the Food Network.

For the past few years, officer involved shootings have led to unprecedented protests. Backlash and violence at times have been so severe, some police said it made them hesitate or even avoid some actions on the job. It's called the Ferguson effect - a reference to the Missouri town where an officer shot Michael Brown in 2014.
