BLOOMINGTON, IN (WAVE) - Indiana University freshman guard Ron Patterson will not enroll for the fall semester. According to the Bloomington Herald-Times and InsideTheHall.com, Patterson did not meet the proper academic requirements.
I.U. head coach Tom Crean released this statement, "We think very highly of Ron and will continue to work with him as allowed to help him reach his goals. He has the chance to do some special things for himself and his family and we will be supportive of whatever he chooses to do."
Patterson averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals as a senior at Indianapolis Broad Ripple High School. The 6-3 guard was ranked as the #25 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 by Rivals.com.
Patterson will reportedly decide between a year in prep school or attempting to enroll at another four-year institution.
His defection leaves the Hoosiers with 13 players for the available 13 scholarships.
