LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville woman suspected of doctor shopping in order to obtain narcotic pain medication and in some cases failing to pay for medical services was arrested Thursday.
Mary Woods, 39, who also uses the alias Michelle Wood, has visited 14 dentists since July 1, according to arrest reports. Police said that during several of those visits, Woods failed to reveal that she was seeing other dentists and receiving narcotic pain pills from them even when asked about her medical history. Several of the dentists have stated to police that they would not have prescribed the narcotics to Woods had they known her true medical history.
In addition, police said Woods failed to pay two dentists she visited in late July. In one instance, police said Woods acted as if she had left her checkbook in her car, but when she left to retrieve it, she drove away.
Police said an envelope containing suspected heroin residue was found inside Woods's purse when she was arrested.
Woods is charged with four counts of attempt to obtain a controlled substance by fraud/false statement/forgery, two counts of theft of services and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Woods previously was convicted of prescription drug offenses and is currently on parole until 2019.
