LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The NCAA Elite Eight is returning to Louisville.
It was announced Wednesday that the Division II men's basketball committee has selected Bellarmine University to host the national 2013 quarterfinals and semifinals at historic Freedom Hall.
The four quarterfinal round games will be played on Thursday, March 28, and the national semifinals will take place on Saturday, March 30. The national championship game will be played April 7 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta as part of the 75th anniversary of Division I men's basketball championships.
Freedom Hall has hosted the NCAA Division I men's Final Four on six occasions – 1958, 1959, 1962, 1963, 1967 and 1969. It has also been the home for various other NCAA tournament rounds.
Although the Elite Eight was held in Louisville from 1995 to 2000, this will be the first time the facility has hosted the Division II tournament. The past tournaments were held at Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville.
