(LOUISVILLE, KY) It's not very often when you're talking about a new player joining a college basketball team in August, but that's precisely what happened at the University of Louisville on Wednesday.
Mangok Mathiang, a 6'10" center, originally from the Sudan, signed a financial aid agreement to play his college career with U of L. Mathiang comes to the school from the IMG Academy in Florida where 11 of his teammates also signed with division one schools. Mathiang averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots last season for IMG's postgraduate team, which posted a 28-2 record in 2011-12.
"Mango is extremely quick and agile for a 6-10 player," said U of L Men's Basketball Coach Rick Pitino. "He has a great future because of the way he moves at both the offensive and defensive ends. We're excited to have him as a part of our program."
Mathiang has been taking classes at U of L since the semester started on Monday.
