LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - If you are in the Highlands
Wednesday night, don't be scared if you see zombies. Blood and gore is taking
over for the Louisville Zombie Attack.
The pre-party will kick of at 6 p.m. at The Back Door in
the Mid City Mall where people can watch the Return Of The Living Dead. At 8:29, the zombies will converge on
Bardstown Road.
"It will turn into one of the best days we have ever
had," said owner of the Monkey Wrench Dennie Humphrey.
Humphrey is setting up and moving in everything he needs
to prepare for a big night.
"It's like another day of halloween," said
Humphrey.
People will be all dressed up like the undead. It's
something that caught the attention of Clay and Cotton owner Margy Taylor.
"I was sitting at a restaurant having dinner and I
thought someone has been injured," said Taylor.
No injuries, just a lot of fake blood and costumes."They are staggering along bleeding," said
Taylor.
Taylor said it's not scary but fun. She admits, zombies
aren't typically her customers. But, it does boost business in bars and
restaurants in the area.
Organizers started the event 8 years ago as a birthday
celebration. Since then, it's grown and this year they are expecting almost
10,000 people.
"This started as a flash mob a bunch of friends and
now it's a huge thing," said one of the organizers Michael Welch.
The event this year has changed its beginning and ending
points. It now wraps up at the Monkey Wrench off Barrett Avenue.
There will be some street closures in the area.
In 2010, vandalism was reported in some neighborhoods
stemming from the event. There will be security this year and LMPD officers
will be on hand.
