JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Jeffersonville Police have put the brakes on several alleged drug dealers. The arrests came after the work of some undercover officers.

Police were focusing their investigation around the area of the Greenwood Apartments. Their investigation began with the arrest of an alleged drug supplier named Cleveland Williams Jr. Police said he is associated with a gang called MHG or the Money Hungry Gangstas.

"Loose affiliation of narcotics dealers that have operated in and around the southern Indiana area for approximately the past 12 years," said Jeffersonville Police Det. Todd Hollis.

Detective Hollis said Williams arrest lead to even more suspected drug dealers. Eight people were arrested over a two day period last week. Undercover officers were used to make the arrests, buying crack cocaine and heroin from the suspects.

"Our narcotics investigating unit has been working on this investigation along with others for the past several months, gaining information making the purchases," said Hollis.

Police said some of these offenders are habitual offenders. The Greenwood Apartments is right across from the Haven House, a homeless shelter. Barbara Anderson is the Executive Director at the shelter she said the people arrested are familiar faces and names to her.

"Some of the names on the list I've worked with for years their families," said Anderson. "So, it was a shock to see some of them. We don't want drugs in our community, we are relieved they are watching. It's good to know they are watching because sometimes you don't see the police but, this tells me they are there."

The suspects are being held at the Clark County Jail.
