LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's the season to lace up the tennis shoes and support some great causes. One walk in particular will send people running to Cherokee Park this weekend.
Five-year-old Zack Pickard is one of just 16 children in the U.S. fighting the disease progeria. The rapid aging disease often takes the lives of these children by age 12. Recently there drugs are showing some promise for extending lives. Money raised at a walk Saturday for Zach will help support more drug research taking place through the Progeria Research Foundation.
"To me, there is hope. I believe that's what drives people and keeps people going. Of course being Zachary's grandmother, Nana wants, I want him to live a long happy life and the other children. Obviously to me this is very important," said Kim Pickard. "Like our race is, it's a race against time. We don't have a lot of time, it's not like we have years and years to explore drugs. These kids need it now."
The 5K Run/Walk is Saturday at Hogan's Fountain. Registration starts at 8 and the walk begins at 9 a.m. There's also an auction with great items up for grabs.
