COLUMBIA, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky State Police are continuing their investigation into a crash Thursday night on KY 551 in Adair County that left one person dead and two women from Louisville injured.
According to KSP Post 15 in Columbia, the single vehicle wreck happened at 10:08 p.m. Central time September 6 about nine miles north of Columbia.
State police said Caleb A. Capps, 18, of Edmonton, was driving a 2004 Chevy truck when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned several times. Capps, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and killed.
Two of the three passengers in the truck, Jessica Mikel, 18 of Louisville and Jessica Burba, 17, also of Louisville, were also injured in the crash. According to KSP, neither Mikel nor Burba were wearing seatbelts.
After treatment at Westlake Regional Hospital, Mikel was flown to University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Her condition was listed as stable. Burba was flown from the scene to University Hospital in Louisville where she was in serious condition.
The fourth person in the truck, Antonio Simmons, 18, of Radcliff, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
KSP said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
