Student brings gun parts to Kentucky high school

GEORGETOWN, KY (WAVE) – Letters were sent home to parents after a 9th grade student came to school in Georgetown, Kentucky with parts of a gun Thursday morning.

Just before 9, students at Scott County High School reported to school officials that they saw another student with a handgun. School officials found an unassembled and unloaded gun during a search of the school.

Georgetown police are investigating, but said this appears the teen was trying to "show off and impress friends."

It is not clear if the student was arrested.
