DEVILS LAKE, ND (WAVE) – Two Kentucky National Guard members were killed in a crash and now another guard member is facing charges.
Sergeant Ronald Forsyth of Ryland Heights and Specialist Jason Burnette of Manchester died in the crash. They were supposed to be in North Dakota for two weeks as part of a military training exercise. Two other Kentucky guard members were treated and released.
Manslaughter charges have been filed against Christopher Brandt, 23. Authorities said Brandt was speeding and driving recklessly.
"As soon as we heard the news, it's just one of those things where it's a loss you can't help but feel bad for the whole unit and the entire guard family," said Lt. Co. Kirk Hilbrecht, Kentucky National Guard.
Officials said there was only one car involved and that it happened after-hours in a non-military vehicle.
