CLARKSVILLE, IN (WAVE) – A southern Indiana man has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a minor and police said he lied about his age to do it.

According to Det. Shawn McDonald of the Clarksville Police Department, Shane Brewer told the 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook that he was 16 when he was actually 19 at the time.

McDonald said the girl's mother noticed a change in her daughter's behavior and the girl finally disclosed that she had been involved with Brewer. The girl's parents also believed Brewer was 16.

Police said the relationship between Brewer and the girl took place between October 2011 and April of this year. Brewer revealed his true age to the girl about three weeks into their relationship, but he knew she was under the age of consent.

Brewer was arrested on September 19 and booked into the Clark County Jail on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
