HODGENVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Friday, police officers from across Kentucky headed to the Hodgenville Civic Center to pay their respects to an officer killed in the line of duty.

Officer Mark Taulbee died Sunday when he crashed his cruiser during a chase.

Mourners said goodbye to a man who dedicated his life to saving others, helping others and caring for others.

The past several days have been extremely tough on those in LaRue County who knew him well, including the man who hired him. The mayor reminisced about sitting with Officer Taulbee during his job interview.

"The more we talked, the more I knew I wanted this man working for me. A couple days later I hired Mark and I have never regretted not one day of it," said Hodgenville Mayor Terry Cruse.

Officer Taulbee leaves behind a wife and two children.
