LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) - Some
tailgaters won't be drinking before the University of Kentucky's football game
against South Carolina.
UK President Eli Capilouto
has imposed an alcohol ban for non-reserved tailgating spots near Commonwealth
Stadium in Lexington.
The ban, which also does
not permit DJ's and bands came after fights broke out before and after Kentucky's
loss to Western Kentucky University.
Capilouto said in a campus
email Thursday that police will bolster their presence in the non-reserved
tailgate area along Cooper Drive between Sports Center Drive and University Drive.
His email encouraged tailgating but in a "responsible fashion."
This is not the first time
the university has dealt with unruly fan behavior.
The school's celebration
of its eighth National Basketball Championship was marred by numerous small
fires and gunfire that wounded one man.
