NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) –
The man police said helped his pregnant girlfriend escape police custody is
behind bars.
The Floyd County Sheriff's
office told WAVE 3 Chris Gentry surrendered to police at 9:35 p.m. Saturday.
Gentry was arrested on an
outstanding warrant for violation of probation for possession of a controlled
substance, carrying a handgun without a license, possession of marijuana and
operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
The Floyd County Sheriff's
office arrested his girlfriend Bridgette Simson at a WalMart in New, Albany on
charges of shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance. Narcotics were
found in Sims system and she was sent to Floyd Memorial Hospital to check on
the baby. After receiving an ultrasound she asked to use the restroom and left
through an unknown bathroom exit. Sims escaped while she was at Floyd Memorial
Hospital receiving an ultrasound after asking to use the restroom and leaving
through an unknown bathroom exit.
Police believe once she
escaped she got in contact with Gentry and had him pick her up.
Sims turned herself into
police the day after her escape on September 24.
Gentry is due in court
Monday.
