911 services down in two southern IN counties

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Residents in Harrison and Jefferson counties in Indiana who need to call 911 will have to use alternate numbers due to a service outage.

According to officials in Harrison County, when residents try to call 911 a recording says the number does not exist.

Repairs are being made to the system, but until they are completed residents with an emergency should call 812-728-3911.

In Madison, Jefferson County officials have two numbers for residents to use for emergency help until the 911 system is restored.

People in the city of Madison can reach an emergency operator by calling 812-265-3347. Residents in the rest of Jefferson County can call 812-265-2648 for emergency assistance.

Dave Bell, emergency management director for Jefferson County, Indiana, said the problem there is with the telephone service. Bell was not sure how long it will take to correct the problem.

Officials in both counties stress that these numbers should only be used for emergency service calls only.
