LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Two children were transported to the hospital after a Jefferson County Public School bus wreck in Valley Station.

According to MetroSafe, the wreck happened around 4:40 p.m. Monday on Dixie Highway at Citation Road.

JCPS spokeswoman Christi Lanier Robinson confirmed JCPS bus number 1051 was carrying 40 students from Dixie Elementary when an SUV hit the front of the bus and knocked off the buses crossing gate arm.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Two children were transported to a hospital. The condition of the children has not been released.

"It was a scary moment," said third grader Zachary Wilkinson. "Somebody in a car actually accidentally hit the bus."

He was one of the scared students on the bus when officials say an SUV slammed into the bus's stop arm.

Call it a mother's intuition, but Kimberly Wilkinson says she knew something wasn't right.

"I waited at his bus stop for over an hour and 15 minutes and his bus never showed," she said.

That's when she says she trusted her gut instinct and made some phone calls to find out what was going on with bus number 1051.

"I got ahold of somebody at the school and they told me he that he was involved in an accident," she said.

In light of the crash Friday where a bus was flipped on its side, she says she could only fear the worst.

"I really was because it seems like everyday anymore there's a bus wreck somewhere. It's just getting more frequent and more frequent and it just blew me away," she said.

She rushed to the bus, hugging her son, happy that the crash itself was only minor.

"You hear about it happening to other people but you really don't expect it to happen to you and then when it does it scares you."

JCPS is sent a second bus, number 9370, to pick up the rest of the students.
