Owner of dog left to die in dumpster charged

NICHOLASVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Animal cruelty charges have been filed against the owner of a dog in Jessamine County who was found badly hurt inside of a dumpster.

On Wednesday, Franklin May came to the Jessamine County Animal Shelter claiming to own the mixed breed chihuahua dog found in a dumpster in Nicholasville.

Once it was verified May owned the dog, he was charged with second-degree animal cruelty.

The dog is being treated and is recovering at the Jessamine County Animal Shelter.
