Kentucky State athlete charged with battery

CHICAGO (WAVE) - A member of the Kentucky State University football team has been accused of groping a hotel housekeeper while the team was on the road.

Martez James, 22, a senior quarterback from Detroit, is charged with misdemeanor battery.

The Associated Press states a police report indicates that while the housekeeper was working in a room James came in and rubbed his body against hers. The housekeeper notified hotel staff and police.

Investigators say the incident happened before the team played and lost to Albany State in the Chicago Football Classic at Soldier Field on September 29.

According to his mother, James didn't play in the game. She also said her son is innocent.
