The Louisville Ballet kicks off the 2012-2013 season with a Company premiere by Val Caniparoli, the beautiful but romantic tragedy Lady of the Camellias. Based on the famous novel La Dame aux Camellias by Alexandre Dumas fils, Caniparoli's rich choreography transports us to Paris of the 19th century where Marguerite, a Parisian courtesan, is embroiled in a story of love and loss to save her lover's honor.


Down Syndrome of Louisville

Over 3,000 DSL Walk/Run participants are anticipated to celebrate the achievements of individuals with Down syndrome. The theme "Were on the Move" illustrates the dynamic growth of Down Syndrome of Louisville with the Grand Opening of the Down Syndrome Lifelong Learning Center in September of 2011 on Hurtsbourne Parkway and the Down Syndrome Lifelong Learning Center opening in Clarksville in October 2012 to serve 10 counties in Southern Indiana. The centers offer nationally recognized innovative programs that enhance the development and education of people of all ages with Down syndrome.

The Down Syndrome of Louisville Walk/ 5KRun showcases the dreams and accomplishments of children and adults with Down syndrome. There will be a Spirit Sprint featuring children and adults with Down Syndrome racing for their own gold medals.

Live entertainment is provided by talented individuals with Down Syndrome; Michel Bush and the DSL All-Star Band, Special K a local rapper and the One the Move Dance Troupe and special guest appearances. There is a kids fun zone and a family picnic tasting.

Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality affecting more than 400,000 people in the United States.  People with Down Syndrome possess a wide range of abilities and are active participants in the educational, occupational, social and recreational activities of the community. YUM! Brands are a lead sponsor of Dare to Care Food Bank, donating $10 million dollars, and 10 million pounds of food per year over the last 10 years. The need has never been more evident, with one in five children, here in Kentucky, at risk of going to bed hungry tonight. That's why, this year, they are celebrating their 15 years as a company with a very special challenge. Yum! is challenging each of their employees and the public to bring in 15 canned goods for their 15th anniversary to help meet their goal of 15,000 pounds of food. You can drive-by and drop 1 or even 15 cans in Dare to Care bins that morning/afternoon.
