LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Four Sullivan University culinary students are heading to Germany to compete against the world in the Culinary Olympics.

They leave Friday, but Tuesday WAVE 3 was there as Mayor Greg Fischer and members of the university said goodbye to the students

The Culinary Olympics is a world class event held every four years, where more than 16,000 chefs compete, including the four from Sullivan this year.

Mayor Fischer commented, "I can't tell you how much I brag about out our city's culinary activities."

Director of Baking and Pastry, Derek Spendlove, will lead Sullivan's Olympic team during the competition. The four were selected by winning other baking competitions.

His team of students for the competition are, Kendall Knies, Jordyn Moseley, Halie Raymer and Kelsee Newman.

56 countries will be represented in the Olympics.

Knies said, "Each day there is a whole new set up a whole new exhibition of different culinary things."

"I'm so proud of this group, I mean they have put their heart and soul into it and really it's about their future and their future is already set in stone," said Spendlove.

The competition will last five days.
