LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky
racetracks are suddenly elbowing one another for racing dates in 2013.
Most notably, Churchill Downs
is competing for September racing traditionally allotted to Turfway Park in
northern Kentucky.
Some prominent horsemen said
the competition is a sign of the struggles to stay competitive with
out-of-state tracks offering higher purses and slot machines.
Kentucky Downs Track at Franklin
is asking for three racing dates next March.
It is up to the Kentucky
horse racing commission to award race dates for the tracks.
The commission will meet
later in October.
