Amazon begins stocking shelves in Jeffersonville

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Construction is complete on the new Amazon Distribution Center in Jeffersonville, and will begin stocking its shelves Wednesday, October 3 in anticipation of the upcoming Holiday season. City officials are told the company expects to begin shipping from the new center on October 17.

Amazon predicts it will employ more than 1,000 people at the $150 million, 28 acre facility. It is the fifth such distribution location in the state of Indiana. To apply for one of the open positions click here.

Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore and Chief of Police Chris Grimm will be on hand Wednesday at the site to answer community concerns about the increased amount of traffic the facility is expected to bring.

"It's an exciting time,"says Moore. "With the Ohio River Bridges project underway, and the Amazon facility commencing operations at River Ridge, we can anticipate explosive growth that will bring an influx of jobs and opportunity to an area that is poised for growth."

Because of an up tick in traffic, expect increased police patrols around the new plant and recent construction zones on Highway 62.
