LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A
former daycare owner charged with fraud may file for bankruptcy.
WAVE 3 learned former
Heavenly Angels daycare owner, LaVonia Lewars, filed documents with her
intentions to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
In the documents, Lewars
asks the court for liquidation of more than $616,000 in liabilities.
Lewars shut down her three
Heavenly Angels locations after one of her daycare vans crashed on June 12,
2012, killing one of her employees and sending 14 children to the hospital.
Soon after the crash, the
state indicted Lewars, accusing her of one count of a fraudulent scheme
or plan to obtain fraudulent benefits over $10,000, and one count of theft by
deception over $10,000.
