LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) –
The city of Louisville will pay nearly $9 million to a man who spent nine years
in prison for a crime he did not commit.
Edwin Chandler was
convicted in the September 1993 murder of Brenda Whitfield, 25.

In 2009, Chandler was
exonerated by a judge after police and prosecutors determined a fingerprint of
another man serving time in prison for assault matched a fingerprint at the
scene.
Chandler settled a civil
rights lawsuit with the city for $8.5 million.
