Wise Dan went to the front at the top of the stretch and then cruised home first in the $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile Saturday at Keeneland in Lexington.
The 5-year-old Wise Dan, who has established himself as one of the top thorougbreds in the U.S. this year, paid $3.20 to win for trainer Charlie Lopresti and jockey Jose Lezcano. Wilcox Inn finished second, 2 and 1/4 lengths in back of Wise Dan, who will now point for next month's Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita.
Lopresti said he is leading to run him in the Breeders' Cup Mile, but that the Breeders' Cup Classic is still an option.
Also on Saturday's card, the fast filly, Groupie Doll turned in an electrifying run in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes. She rolled to victory by just over six lengths and paid $2.80 as the race's overwhelming favorite.
In the First Lady Stakes, the 5-year-old mare, Tapitsfly came from just off the pace to take the one mile test on the grass for trainer Dale Romans. Tapitsfly, who recorded her second Grade One victory of the year, returned $7.60.
