John Boel's perspective while competing in the bicycling portion of the Ironman.
The Ironman finish line was located at Fourth Street Live!
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – WAVE 3's John Boel became the first person ever given permission to wear a camera during the Ironman triathlon when he joined thousands of other athletes from nearly all 50 states and 16 countries in the sixth Ironman Louisville competition on August 26. John wanted to document the Ironman to show why it is called the most difficult one-day endurance test in the world.
John has finished more than a dozen marathons and six Ironman triathlons. He finished the 2012 race with a time of just over 14 hours (14:03:46).
Winner Patrick Evoe, 35, of Austin, TX crossed the finished line at Fourth Street Live! in downtown Louisville with a time of 8:42:22.
The Ironman triathlon includes a two-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run all in one day.
