MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It was quite the sight along Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach Thursday afternoon as traffic began to stall and car after car pulled off the side of the road.

Families pulled over to get a closer look at a giant turtle after it was spotted along the side of the road, walking with his master.

While most people just slowed down to get a better look, Leona Brown says her family, and nearly 20 other people, just had to be close enough to touch.

"We were on our way home from work when we saw the turtles and a few people," Brown wrote in an email with the pictures she snapped. "We stopped and had an amazing experience."

Brown said her grandson, Dylan, had a great time petting the large reptile.
