LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists will be visiting WAVE Country for three days next year.

The Dalai Lama will be in Louisville from May 19 to May 21, 2013. On Monday, Mayor Greg Fischer will join James Wood, head of the Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and representatives of the Drepung Gomang Institute (Louisville's Tibetan Buddhist Center) to announce details of the visit.

The current Dalai Lama is the 14th person to hold the position. He has lived in exile in northern India since the 1959 Tibetan uprising.

The Dalai Lama last visited Louisville in 1994, but has made six visits to Indiana. His late older brother was a professor at Indiana University and founded a Buddhist center in Bloomington.
