LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A grieving mother is planning a funeral after her son was gunned down in an Okolona home. It happened early Wednesday morning along the 6500 block of Larry Lane.

Gerald Jackson, 33, was shot and killed in a house full of four children and his girlfriend. His mother is pleading for the shooter to come forward.

For years she has collected figurines, but now Mary Jackson feels she has a real guardian angel after the loss of her son. "I miss that call when my cell phone rings," she said.

Jackson died October 10 after someone shot and killed him overnight. The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. inside a house. Neighbors who spoke to the children in the home said he was shot in a hallway near a bathroom.

"I really don't know what happened. He didn't bother nobody. He was a good guy," Jackson said.

She told WAVE 3 her son worked a factory job at Cardinal Aluminum, but recently applied for more work to cover bills.

"He called me and said, ‘Momma I'm getting ready to work a second job so I can take care of my kids.' He was trying to get on the US Postal Service," she said.

Gerald Jackson leaves behind five children and one stepchild. The Newburg native had been with his most recent girlfriend for more than four years. LMPD towed two Dodge Durangos from the house where he lived with her. Police have not confirmed why detectives removed the vehicles. Officers have not released any suspect information.

The mother who is burying her son is pleading for those with any information to contact police. "If anybody out there knows what happened please come forward or turn yourself in for our family and his kids so we can have peace," Jackson said.

Services will be held Tuesday, October 16 at First Baptist Church in Jeffersontown. Visitation begins at 11 a.m.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673). All calls to the Crime Tip Line are anonymous.
